About Disney's Hollywood Studios

Disney's Hollywood Studios opened on May 1, 1989, as Disney-MGM Studios — originally conceived as a working production facility with a small tourist component, before pivoting entirely to theme park operations. In 2024, the park hosted 10.3 million guests, ranking it ninth among the most-visited theme parks in the world. The park covers 135 acres and is themed around Hollywood's golden era, movie-making, and the popular entertainment franchises that have defined Disney's content strategy over the past decade.

The park is structured around six current themed areas.

Hollywood Boulevard serves as the main entrance corridor, anchored by a replica of Grauman's Chinese Theatre housing Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, a trackless dark ride and the park's best family attraction.

Echo Lake and Sunset Boulevard flank the classic mid-century Hollywood zones; the latter is home to the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, which reopened in summer 2026 rethemed to The Muppets' Electric Mayhem band.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, a fully immersive 14-acre land set on the planet Batuu, is home to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, widely considered the most ambitious dark ride in Walt Disney World.

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, updated in May 2026 with new Mandalorian and Grogu missions.

Toy Story Land, 11 acres themed to Andy's backyard, adds Slinky Dog Dash and Toy Story Mania.

The Walt Disney Studios Lot, a reimagined Animation Courtyard, opened May 26, 2026, with Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live and new animation-history experiences. Monstropolis — a Monsters, Inc.-themed land replacing the former Muppets Courtyard — is under construction with no confirmed opening date, though a 2028 debut is widely projected. It will feature Walt Disney World's first-ever suspended roller coaster.

Why interactive wayfinding matters here

Disney's Hollywood Studios is the most thrill-dense park at Walt Disney World, and also the most actively changing one. In the span of May–summer 2026 alone: a new Mandalorian mission on Smugglers Run, a new land opened in Animation Courtyard, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster rethemed and reopened, and Monstropolis construction walls have reshaped the path between Grand Avenue and Galaxy's Edge.

A park that changes this quickly makes a printed map obsolete within months. A live interactive map that reflects the current park layout is the only version worth consulting.
