About Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium

Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium, known as DKR, is the official home of the University of Texas Longhorns football program in Austin, Texas. First opened in 1924 with seating for approximately 27,000 spectators and a 440-yard running track, the stadium has been continuously expanded and reimagined across its century-long history. The running track was removed, upper decks were added to both the east and west sides, and the south end zone was fully enclosed in 2021 to push the official capacity to 100,199 — placing DKR among the largest college football venues in the country.

The stadium has carried several names across its history, including its current name since 1996, honoring legendary Longhorns head coach Darrell K Royal, who guided the program to three national championships and eleven Southwest Conference titles.

For the 2026 season, Texas Athletics launched a new interactive 3D map powered by Mappedin, available through the Texas Longhorns app and online. The platform lets fans locate seating sections, concessions, restrooms, and first aid stations and supports the Texas Football Fan Journeys program, which organizes the pregame experience into three tailored tracks:

Printed maps handed out at entry can't reflect real-time changes: a closed concourse, a relocated vendor, a new sponsor activation. Texas Athletics solved this by embedding a live Mappedin map directly in the Longhorns app and online, so every update ships instantly.
