About EPCOT

EPCOT opened on October 1, 1982, conceived by Walt Disney as an Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow before evolving into the theme park it is today. Spanning 305 acres, it is more than twice the size of Magic Kingdom, making it one of the largest theme parks in the world by footprint.

The park is organized into four thematic neighborhoods:

World Celebration

World Celebration anchors the main entrance around the iconic Spaceship Earth geosphere and houses the Imagination! pavilion, home to Figment.

World Discovery

World Discovery is the park's science-and-space corridor, featuring Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (one of the longest indoor roller coasters ever built) alongside Test Track and Mission: SPACE.

World Nature

World Nature focuses on the natural world. The Seas with Nemo & Friends contains a 5.7-million-gallon saltwater aquarium, while The Land Pavilion houses Soarin' Across America and a working hydroponic greenhouse visitors can tour by boat on Living with the Land.

World Showcase

World Showcase occupies roughly 115 acres around a 40-acre central lagoon, with 11 country pavilions — Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, the United States, Japan, Morocco, France, the United Kingdom, and Canada — arranged along the 1.2-mile promenade.

Each pavilion features architecture, dining, and cultural exhibits authentic to its country; Norway hosts Frozen Ever After and France hosts Remy's Ratatouille Adventure.

EPCOT festivals

EPCOT also runs four ticketed-admission festivals throughout the calendar year:

  • International Festival of the Arts (January–February)
  • Flower & Garden Festival (March–May/June)
  • International Food & Wine Festival (late August–November)
  • Festival of the Holidays (late November–December)

Why interactive wayfinding matters here

At 305 acres, EPCOT is large enough that guests routinely underestimate the distance between neighborhoods. The World Showcase promenade alone is 1.2 miles end to end. Print maps handed out at the gate can't update when a pavilion queue closes, a festival stage moves, or a new seasonal activation opens.

A live digital map means every operational change like attraction downtime, festival booth locations, or pavilion hours reaches guests instantly. That's the layer Mappedin provides for attraction operators who need updates to ship in minutes.
